Component video is a high end video signal that delivers better picture quality.   It splits a video signal into three parts:  two for color and one for luminance.  This separation results in slightly better picture quality than S-Video, particularly in the the area of color fidelity.  Component-video inputs are often used for DVD players and high definition satellite and cable receivers.
